The Delines wurden 2012 in Portland, Oregon gegründet. Die Band besteht aus Sängerin Amy Boone, Sean Oldham (Perkussion, Gesang) und Willy Vlautin (Gitarre, Gesang), Cory Gray (Keyboards, Trompete) und Freddy Trujillo (Bass, Gesang). »The Sea Drift« ist ihr drittes Studioalbum nach »Colfax« (2014) und »The Imperial« (2019). Das Album wurde im Bocce Recording Studio in Vancouver, Washington zusammen mit Produzent und Engineer John Morgan Askew aufgenommen.
