ME/Sounds 12/99: „Da ist sie wieder: Die härteste und erfolgreichste Polit-Band aller Zeiten, das gebündelte Rap-Rock-Crossover-Paket und das gute Gewissen der Rockmusik. Rage Against The Machine dürfen für sich in Anspruch nehmen, eine der wichtigsten, wenn nicht die wichtigste Band der 90er Jahre zu sein. Und die klingt nach dreijähriger Pause noch genau so wuchtig, agressiv und plättend, wie auf den beiden Vorgängern. Und Zack mimt nicht mehr in allen zwölf Stücken den energetischen Schreihals, er muss sich nicht mehr ständig auskotzen. In „Maria“ versucht er zum ersten Mal, richtig zu singen – und das klingt so spannend, wie das gesamte Album. Kompliment.“
